In the latest "Meet the Crew" update, say hello to Fandango! Like his pseudo-siblings, Fandango is also rescue cat. I adopted him when he was about one year old.
When I initially requested to meet him, I was informed that he had some behavior issues. They said that when they tried to take him to an adoption event, he vehemently declined (translation: bit a handler). But the part that tugged at my heart strings was when they informed me that, "he used to be more social before his brothers and sisters all got adopted." At that point I had to adopt him and was willing to put forth any amount of effort required to give him a happy home.
He spent almost 2 weeks hiding in his cage. I was able to pet him and get him purring, but he'd only come out to eat and use the litter box (I tried wand play and the like, but he wasn't terribly interested). I took boxes and cut holes in each end and placed them all over the bedroom. This allowed him to move from box to box so he could explore but still feel safe. Then he began adding a new room on every few days. Finally, he was to the point that he'd venture through the whole house!
Ultimately, Fandango is a cuddly little snuggle fluff who also happens to be a huge coward. He's well behaved and happiest when he can purr and just lay on my feet. Although it's taken a lot of time, he's to the point where he'll come say hi to visitors. Some people he even likes enough to let them pet him! He still gets scared by things like thunderstorms and has to hide under the bed, but all in all he leads a happy, playful life! #catsofinstagram
