It was a string! The kitty in our last post ate a string, one of the most common foreign bodies we see in cats. 🐱 🧶 ⚠️ Warning!! Surgery photos to follow!! ⚠️ On this x-ray you can see the intestines “bunching” because the string is causing intestinal plication.
In any exam for vomiting cats you will notice your veterinarian check under your cats tongue. String foreign bodies often get stuck here, and when the intestines can no longer push the string along/out, it causes the plication. The string, if not dealt with can cut along the walls of the intestines. 🤮
Dr. Guinn performed an exploratory surgery and removed the string foreign body from this kitty’s intestines. His most recent recheck shows he’s doing well at home. 🙂
And no, you cannot just cut the string from around the tongue and pull on one end - this can cause the string to tighten and increases the risk of intestinal perforation. 💡
