Podcast a Vet has been a favorite of mine since the very first listen. The episode that aired during National Veterinary Technician Week gave me all the feels. Dr. John Arnold refers to veterinary technicians as the heartbeats of the hospital, making it apparent that he has a large amount of trust and respect for his nursing staff. ❤️🩺👨⚕️
If you're a veterinary technician you've likely experienced what it's like to be underpaid, underappreciated and underutilized at some point in your career. Unfortunately, many educated technicians are still offered a laughable salary. I would be surprised if you weren't asked the famous "so do you want to be a vet someday?" question at least a handful of times as if being a vet tech was all about playing with puppies and kittens all day. A significant amount of technicians that I've encountered have never even performed one tooth extraction or drawn up controlled substances because they have never been given the opportunity or were not trusted with the task.
With leaders like @drjohnarnold paving the way, I am hopeful that veterinary technicians will obtain the same level of trust and respect as human nurses in my lifetime. 🙏🏻
