Let’s talk about facts. When you troll my account and tell me I shouldn’t trap cats because “they have worms and fleas” and that I shouldn’t volunteer at a shelter because “they all have fleas”...FACT: Not all stray, dumped, and/or feral cats have worms, fleas or diseases. FACT: Many of them do, and there are precautions that can and will be taken. They are also the ones who need the most help. When you tell me I should leave the rescue of a cat living in a ditch “to the professionals”....FACT: That’s not a thing. Animal Control, if you’re lucky enough to have it, will not typically trap a cat. Some rescues will, but only in certain situations, in certain areas, and only if they have the resources which is almost never. FACT: The professionals you speak of, that’s me. A volunteer. Someone who has taken on the time, responsibility, emotional baggage, and expense of helping animals in need. FACT: If I do not help this cat, no one will.
If you do not have access to these facts, that is not your fault. I don’t judge you for that. If you don’t rescue because you’re scared of what you think might happen because of stereotypes and pre-conceived notions, I also will not judge. Maybe it’s just not your thing. That’s totally fine too. But DO NOT discourage someone else from helping an animal because of YOUR fear. FACT: If you think you’ll get fleas or worms from my account, you can feel free to unfollow and just stick to the type of account that posts happy, healthy perfect kittens...from a mom that wasn’t spayed.
